Spring’s Beginning in the English Countryside: Slow Living, Simple Joys & Seasonal Recipes

The English countryside is changing again. The last days of March are truly charming: the beginning of British Summer Time, trees and hedges getting greener with each passing day and evenings slowly growing longer - the beauty of Spring unfolds in front of our eyes.

During my daily walks through fields and forests here in Somerset, I’ve noticed snowdrops and daffodils slowly fading, making way for wild garlic and swelling buds on the trees and hedgerows. The end of March and beginning of April is the perfect time to practice slow living and mindfulness - simply noticing the changes in nature and finding joy in the simple, ordinary moments of life.

Cottage Cooking Recipe: Coconut Curry Meatballs

In this video, I’m trying a new recipe: meatballs cooked in a coconut curry sauce. I’ve never made this before, so I’m looking forward to giving it a go. Cooking every day can feel like a lot, especially if you have a large family - it’s not just the cooking, but all the washing up afterwards too.

Naan bread recipe

My husband and I always try to cook for at least two days, and that’s really brought the joy of cooking back into our lives. I find it calming and relaxing to be alone in the kitchen, pans steaming on the stove, as I shape meatballs in our cosy little kitchen - the heart of our home for the past six years.

A Visit to Widecombe-in-the-Moor: Rural Village in the English Countryside

One of my simple, yet beloved pleasures in life is visiting villages and churches in remote countryside locations. My husband and I have started calling ourselves little church crawlers - no week goes by without us standing in a quiet rural churchyard, admiring the stonework and reading about the history of the building and the surrounding village.

In this video, we’re visiting the churchyard of the village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor in beautiful Dartmoor National Park. The church is known as the “Cathedral of the Moors” because of the size of its tower, which is unusually large for the small population it serves.

A New Rustic Home Décor Collection Inspired by English Cottages

We’ve had a lovely delivery of home décor to our shop It includes a recipe book stand with the words Happiness is Homemade - and I couldn’t agree more! I only select items that would feel right at home in a cosy English cottage - pieces that add warmth and a rustic feeling to our spaces.

Easter Mini Egg Cheesecake Recipe

If I haven’t convinced you yet that cooking can become one of life’s little pleasures, then baking certainly can. I find it incredibly relaxing and peaceful. Of course, not all my bakes turn out perfectly, but experimenting is part of the joy.
