Discover the Joy of Slow Living Through Mindful Daily Hobbies

Slow living encourages mindfulness in our everyday lives, to pay attention to the little, ordinary things that make life special yet often go unnoticed or brushed over as unimportant. Every time we open our social media apps, we see incredible things: faraway destinations, luxury lifestyles, remarkable skills and more.

It's easy to get lost in all this, forgetting that the online world is usually just highlights of someone's life, while real life is here and now. The warmth of my bed in the morning, the taste of toothpaste and my daughter asking me to style her hair for school - these are the building blocks of our reality. If we choose to pay attention and enjoy those little things, these blocks will build a happy life, full of sweet memories.

I'm not one to condemn social media and the algorithm - after all, it brought you here, reading this blog and for that, I'll be forever grateful. But in this busy, frantic world, it's more important than ever to have hobbies that require us to go offline.

Slow living hobbies are often called "grandma hobbies" and I absolutely love it! The thing is, before our hands became permanently busy with holding mobile phones, our grandmothers would be knitting, kneading dough or turning pages of a book (among many other activities). In this video, I share the hobbies I enjoy most in my mid-30s. I hope it will inspire you on your slow living journey to make more time for hobbies that make you forget to check your phone.

CHOCOLATE MUFFINS RECIPE

Ingredients:
1 ¾ cups plain flour, 1 ½ tsp baking soda, ½ tsp salt, ½ cup cocoa powder, 1 tbsp instant coffee, ¾ cup milk, ½ cup oil, 1 cup brown sugar, ¾ cup thick plain yogurt, 1 egg, ¾ cup chocolate chips

Method:
1) Preheat oven to 220°C (Gas Mark 7). In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt. 2) In a separate bowl, mix cocoa, instant coffee and hot milk (I heat mine in the microwave for 1.5 minutes). Once combined, add brown sugar, oil, yogurt and egg (in this order) and mix well. 3) Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. A few lumps are better than overmixing. Then, add about ¾ of the chocolate chips—save some for later. 4) Divide the batter between 12 cups and top them with the remaining chocolate chips, piling them in the middle. 5) Bake at the higher temperature (220°C / Gas Mark 7) for 5 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 190°C / Gas Mark 5 and bake for a further 15-17 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
