A Peaceful Autumn Morning Walk in Evershot, Dorset
A peaceful walk in Autumn in the morning, when the air is crisp and cool after the night, must be one of the greatest pleasures of the season. I'm lucky my husband is an early riser, who encourages me to get out of bed earlier than usual and visit the charming village of Evershot in Dorset.
Evershot parish, which includes the nearby hamlet of Holywell, has a population of around 210 people, and it's believed that its history dates back over 1,100 years. The parish church you can see in the video was built on the site of an earlier chapel dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, which dates back to the 12th century.
Today, Evershot is a picturesque village known for its ties to Thomas Hardy, who featured the village in several of his works as "Evershed" and the Acorn Inn (the place where we enjoyed coffee and a meal in the video) as "The Sow and Acorn."
The village is a quiet little place, definitely worth visiting if you are looking to experience a real-life, non-touristic English village. I highly recommend paying a visit to the Acorn Inn—lovely food and friendly staff who found us a table even though we had not booked.
