Join Me in a Gentle Countdown to Autumn 2025

Do you also get that warm feeling inside when you hear words like “Autumn,” “pumpkins” or “sweater weather”? I know I’m not alone. As a shop owner,  I see Autumn and pumpkin-scented candles being loved all year round - especially as we move through the Summer months into September. When I’m packing those orders, I just know I’ve found my people on the wide world web.

Today marks 12 weeks until Autumn!

I'm kind of known as the Autumn person. For many years on social media, I shared countdown videos to this beloved season… but it’s no secret that I’ve grown tired of short-form, brain-rot content. These days, I much prefer sharing soul-nourishing, cosy content that actually means something - beyond holding someone’s attention for 3 seconds.

This year, I’ve decided to bring back my Autumn Countdown - but much better! I warmly invite you to join me for 12 weeks of counting down to Autumn 2025.

Together, we’ll travel through the Summer months, appreciate the harvest, notice the subtle changes in nature (and within ourselves) and embrace the seasonal shift as we arrive in September - the beginning of the “BER” months (September, October, November, December).

When do we count down to?

Just like me, I know that you are an Autumn girl through and through. And we both know that Autumn has several important dates to remember. Since it spans three months, there are several possible countdown dates. Some of the most popular include:

- 1st of September: The start of the BER months and meteorological Autumn
- 22nd of September: The beginning of Autumn on the calendar (astronomical Autumn)
- 1st of October: The beginning of spooky season
- 31st of October: Halloween

I’ve decided our countdown will lead up to September 1st. The final day of our countdown falls on August 31st - Autumn Eve - which I think is just perfect. It gives me the opportunity - if you'd like to join me -  to guide you through the next three months and help you get into that warm, magical Autumn mood. We'll enjoy the journey through the seasons together and start noticing the quiet, beautiful shifts all around us - things that might otherwise go unnoticed in the everyday rush.

Why think about Autumn in Summer?

Well, firstly - because we have free will! Having hobbies, favourite seasons and colours doesn’t hurt anyone. In fact, they add joy to our lives, so why not?

But also - because it’s deeply rooted in us. Our ancestors spent the majority of Summer thinking and preparing for Autumn and Winter. In today’s world, we’ve become used to food arriving at our door with just a tap, but not that long ago, delivery services and supermarkets didn’t exist. The first supermarket only opened in 1930 in New York.

That might seem like ages ago, but in the grand scheme of human history, it’s very recent. For centuries, people lived off the land and within close communities. It’s only natural that when we spot the first homegrown strawberries or see cherries ripening on trees, we feel that ancient instinct to prepare for the colder months ahead.

Our grandmothers - and their grandmothers - would spend the whole Summer canning, preserving, drying and freezing, making the most of the long days and abundance of nature. Even children’s stories reflect this: remember The Ant and the Grasshopper?

A gentle task for this week:

Do you know much about your family history? Try to remember or ask any of your older relatives if your family, even going back generations, had any ties to farming, livestock keeping or homesteading. You might discover something new about your ancestors and it could also explain why you feel drawn to thoughts of Autumn right now. It might quite literally be in your blood! If you're happy to share, I’d love to read your family stories in the comments:)

My family on my mother’s side were farmers and my grandmother Władysława had a small homestead with cows, chickens, goats and a garden. Although my mum became a city girl, it’s very clear how much of that life still lives in her. She has a farming-related wisdom or saying for every season and type of weather. She also knows a lot about caring for farm animals, thanks to helping with them as a young girl.

Let’s count down to Autumn 2025 together

By thinking about Autumn in Summer, we’re simply repeating patterns that have existed for thousands of years - tuning into a natural rhythm that’s is deeply rooted in our DNA

If that rhythm speaks to you too, I’d love for you to join me in a gentle countdown to September. Please also share it with your friends and family who feel the magic of Autumn too. Let’s prepare for the season together, slowly and meaningfully 🍂 New posts will go live every Sunday on the blog, as we gently count down the weeks together.
