The history of Castle Combe reaches back to the Roman era, when its natural springs and strategic location turned it into a bustling settlement. It's incredible to imagine the bustling activity that once took place on the very paths I walked, as merchants and traders navigated these cobbled streets. The remnants of this past are still visible today, as the village grew around its iconic market cross and a medieval church that stands as a testament to the community's enduring spirit.

Castle Combe embodies the essence of Cotswold charm. I love how green the village is. Its honey-hued stone buildings, adorned with climbing ivy and surrounded by trees, create a harmonious blend of nature and architecture.

The village's beauty has not gone unnoticed by filmmakers either; Castle Combe has played host to numerous film and television productions, making it a familiar sight even to those who have never visited.

The name "Castle Combe" reflects its early importance, with "Combe" referring to the valley in which it lies. While no castle stands today, the village was home to a Norman fortification, giving rise to its name. The medieval period saw the village thrive, thanks to its wool and cloth trade, which contributed to its architectural character and prosperity.
