25 Slow Living Habits to Transform Your Life in 2025
With just days left until 2025, I feel quite reflective. The time between Christmas and the New Year is some of the calmest and quietest of the year and it definitely encourages musings about life, the future and habits.
I've written down a list of 25 slow living habits for 2025. I hope it will inspire you for the coming year and encourage you to build some good habits that will transform your physical and mental wellbeing and ultimately... your life.
Just a note: it’s not like I have it all figured out either! While writing this post, some of these points really hit home. There are people out there who have this slower, calmer pace of life in their blood (my husband, for instance - he's literally never rushing or stressing, but everything still gets done!). For many of us slow living is a lifelong journey. Our brains can be trained to stop chasing trends, see beauty in the ordinary and find joy in simplicity. And I promise you - the more you practice, the easier it gets.
Here are 25 slow living habits that will improve your life in 2025:
- Mindful mornings: Create a comforting routine to set you up for a good day. Consider listing things you’re grateful for, things you’re looking forward to or practicing 10 minutes of gentle yoga or breathwork.
- Calming evenings: Build an evening routine that helps you wind down and rest peacefully - both physically and mentally.
- Prioritise sleep: In 2025, prioritise this essential need. It will improve your mood, focus, even beauty(!). No more scrolling until midnight!
- Practice gratitude daily: Write down or visualise things you’re grateful for. Over time, you’ll notice your life is full of amazing things just waiting to be noticed.
- Reflect weekly: Reflect on your week - be honest about what went well and what needs improving. Set simple intentions for the next week and hold yourself accountable.
- Eat your veggies: Include vegetables in every meal. Choose fruits and veggies as snacks instead of processed sweets.
- Drink water: Aim for at least 2 liters of water daily to boost skin health, energy levels, digestion and so much more!
- Exercise at least twice a week: Choose a form of exercise you enjoy and can stick with long-term.
- Slow meals: Sit down for meals without distractions. Don’t watch TV or scroll your phone while eating.
- Declutter regularly: Our environment greatly impacts our well-being. Tidy one small area at a time to maintain a peaceful, spacious home throughout the year.
- Unsubscribe & unfollow: Curate your online space to be inspiring and calming. Reduce digital clutter and unfollow accounts that trigger negative feelings.
- Nature walks: Walk outdoors as often as possible. The benefits of spending time in nature are countless.
- Prioritise local living: Support local shops, farmers and events. Visit a new café, try locally produced jam or honey or explore your nearest National Trust or English Heritage site.
- Seasonal cooking: Live in tune with the nature by incorporating seasonal vegetables into your diet throughout the year.
- Seasonal decorating: Celebrate nature’s rhythms by adding seasonal touches to your home, making it cosy and inviting.
- Notice small moments: Pause to appreciate little things that bring you joy like a cup of coffee or the first daffodil of the season.
- Embrace slow hobbies: Try knitting, baking, gardening or making YouTube videos - whatever sparks joy for you.
- Cook meals from scratch: It’s a cost-effective and healthy habit that can also become a fulfilling slow hobby.
- Buy less, choose well: Adopt a “fewer but better” mindset. Choose locally sourced, handmade (like our candles!), or vintage items over mass-produced ones.
- Simplify your schedule: Prioritise fewer, more meaningful activities each day. You’ll find you actually do more in less time.
- One-task focus: Commit to doing one task at a time, giving it your full attention. This will help you finish faster and free up time for relaxation.
- Set boundaries: Define your work hours and stick to them. No more answering emails after hours. Let others know when you’re available.
- Practice saying no: Don’t be afraid to disappoint people who push your boundaries. Saying no is an act of self-care.
- Delegate tasks: You’re not the only capable person around. Learn to delegate tasks to free up your time and…
- Rest unapologetically: Honour your need for rest without guilt. It’s a necessity, not a luxury.
These habits are gentle reminders to slow down and enjoy the journey we call life! My goals for 2025 include learning to simplify my schedule and embracing slow hobbies - namely reading. I really want to read more, ideally one book a week.
Which of the slow living habits are you going to incorporate or improve in 2025?
