October in Castle Combe & Halloween at the Farm Shop in the Cotswolds
I'm very lucky to live within driving distance of the beautiful Castle Combe—often called the most beautiful village in England. The charm of this place is undeniable—medieval cottages with their stone walls and wooden doors are the quintessence of old England. I love observing the changing seasons here and how the cottages remain unchanged despite witnessing hundreds of years' worth of seasons. They've seen freezing Winters and Summer droughts, yet they stay strong and proud, providing cosy shelter for their inhabitants.
Now, in October, the village dressed in shades of red is just breathtakingly beautiful. We visited on a sunny, dry day, and the red leaves on the cottage walls looked almost unreal—a real-life fairytale. Don't be fooled by the blue, cloudless sky—the gentle breeze was nippy, and I was grateful for my coat and layers underneath.
Castle Combe can get busy with tourists—I personally think it's amazing that this place is open to the public at no cost and that people from all around the world come here to admire this gorgeous place. If you wish to avoid the crowds, I recommend visiting early in the morning or late in the afternoon on work and school days. Naturally, a Summer Saturday will be much busier than a Tuesday morning in February.
After the walk in the village, my husband Andrei and I had a lovely lunch at one of our favourite Cotswolds places—Burton Farm Shop & Kitchen. It's a short drive from Castle Combe, and the food is truly delicious there, with the staff always smiling. The place was decorated for Halloween, with a giant skeleton at the front door and lots more inside! They also decorate for Christmas, so if you love seasonal decor, that's even more reason to visit.
Anyway, enough talking. Let me show you around in the video below—I hope you enjoy it.
