Answering Your Most Asked Questions About My Life, Family & Weight loss

I'm going to start off this blog strong and tell you straight away that I don’t find myself that interesting and my head hasn’t gotten so big as to think people can’t sleep because they have questions about my lifestyle lol! I think my life is pretty regular and for some probably quite boring, but this is exactly how I want it, so I take no offense :)

That said, as a person who puts a lot of content out there: vlogs, blogs and actual real-life products like our hand-poured candles and rustic home decor, I do understand that some questions arise. I've noticed that some of them come up very often and I find myself writing the same answers over and over again.

To make my own life easier, I thought I would put them all in a blog post, which I can link to every time I get asked these questions. I’m going to write down the questions that are asked most often, but if you have any more, just pop them in the comments below. I don’t promise to answer every question - I’m not giving away business-sensitive info or sharing too much about my children. I hope you understand!

1. Where Are You and Your Husband From? Do You Have Greek Roots?

I understand the confusion here! I was born and raised in Żory, near Katowice in Poland. My husband is from Brăila in Romania. We met in the UK and we never had any plans to move back to Poland or Romania. It was pretty obvious from the beginning that we wanted to make our home in Somerset.

I often get mistaken for being Romanian because I now have my husband's surname. I find it very sweet! Unfortunately, I don’t speak any Romanian.

Also, I (sadly) don’t have any Greek roots. My mum lives in Greece because that’s where she chose to spend her retirement years! She bought a tiny house in an authentic Greek village and lives a happy, quiet life, swimming in the sea and tending to her garden.

2. How Did Andrei & I Meet?

This is by far one of the most frequently asked questions!

We met at work. Andrei was working as a personal trainer at the gym and I was working at the reception. I don’t have any fitness background or anything - I was there signing up new members, answering calls and booking appointments. We became friends straight away, which created an amazing foundation for our relationship. Beyond the romantic side, we truly love spending time together.

Except for the rare coffee I have with a female friend, we only do social events and accept invitations if we can go together. I wouldn’t want to go on holiday or even to the cinema alone - Andrei really is my best friend.

3. Why Do Your Children Never Eat With You?

I find it interesting how quickly people use words like "never" and "always" based on one 10-minute video. I get this kind of question the most on YouTube.

To answer the question: We have family dinners every Saturday and Sunday - assuming Jacob is home. He’s 16, so he often goes out in the afternoons, especially in Summer.

During the week, we just try to navigate life as a family of four with two children of drastically different ages - 6 and 16! Rosa usually eats right after she comes home from school - and she is a picky eater! Jacob sometimes eats with us, sometimes when he gets back late and sometimes he eats out with his friends.

Do you see what I mean? Putting all of this into a YouTube video would be complicated and unnecessary - I don’t think the public is that interested in our family meal times. That’s why when I film, I only show mine and Andrei’s meals - and only the nice ones!

4. Why Don’t You talk About / Show Your Children?

This is a follow-up question I often get. I made the decision a long time ago not to make content based on my children. I sometimes share cute moments with Rosa or snippets of our family roast dinner, but that’s about it. No nighttime routines, bath times or toy shopping guides on my channel. To be completely honest, I have zero interest in anybody's children and don’t watch or engage with any parenting accounts.

I want to say that I don’t mean to condemn anyone - situations are different! Let’s remember that for some mums (e.g., single mums), this might be their only way to make a living. That said, I’m eternally grateful that this is not my story and that my children can keep their privacy. I intend to be even stricter about this in 2025.

Sometimes, it’s hard not to share cute videos because Rosa loves being in front of the camera and often asks to be filmed. Who knows? Once she grows up, maybe she’ll have her own YouTube channel in the future :)

5. How Do You Deal with Hate & Trolls?

Honestly, I get very little of this. I think it’s because my content is very mild and not very polarising. The most I get is people asking what’s wrong with me when I talk about Autumn in June lol!

Of course, I could explain that Andrei and I run a small candle business and that early Autumn sales make us very happy because they help during the quiet Summer period in retail. But I usually don’t bother - I delete and move on, I'm too busy sending pumpkin spice candles to my customers :D

The only other reason I ever get rude comments is about my diet and weight loss.

6. How Did I Lose Weight & Maintain It?

Diet and weight loss are topics I avoid discussing online because the weight loss and healthy eating niche is so nasty! It’s shocking how much fear-based content is out there.

Sugar? Bad. Carbs? Even worse! Tap water? It’s poisoned. Bottled water? You’re drinking microplastics!

And so on. People are anxious about normal, everyday food because some charlatan has instilled fear in them to sell gummy vitamins or fiber powder. Just eat your veggies and don’t listen to fearmongers - and if doubt, contact your GP.

As for my own weight loss, I followed my husband's recommendations. I eat everything as normal but focused on getting more protein, cutting calories and not snacking between my meals.

At first, I ate about 1,800 kcal a day, and as my weight loss progressed, I dropped to 1,650 kcal a day (roughly, of course). That’s where I am now because it’s also my maintenance level.

I don’t count calories anymore because I know roughly how much I eat. If you’re just starting, I strongly recommend tracking everything you eat for a few days, as we tend to underestimate our consumption. Then, cut down a few hundred calories and keep going for a few months. Weigh yourself regularly, keeping in mind that your weight might fluctuate (especially around your period - I always gain 1kg).

It took me 12 months to lose 25 kg. I’m not special - if I did it, I know you can too! ❤️

I also stay pretty active. I run twice a week (I recommend Couch to 5K if you’re in the UK), I do yoga and I take walks as often as I can. I used to go to the gym during my weight loss journey, but I hated going alone (without Andrei), so I eventually dropped it. Now, I just do push-ups, planks, etc., at home when I unroll my yoga mat.

7. Are You Still Buying a House? When Are You Moving?

The original plan was to start house hunting in April 2025, but... we happened to place an offer on a house in January!

We’re done with all the documents and yesterday we got the green light from the bank. So now, we’re just patiently waiting for the completion date. Ok, who am I kidding? Andrei might be waiting patiently - I’m sitting on pins and needles, waiting for any micro-update, haha!

I can't share much about the house as the family still lives there, but just to give you a general idea: it's a modern, but not brand-new, detached house in the old Somerset village. The house is right at the edge of the village, with the back gate leading into Somerset Levels (mostly fields and pastures<3 ). The house needs work - the kitchen is in pretty bad state and will need a full redo, while the bathrooms are not ideal but they are decently new. It's perfect as it will give us time to renovate the house one room at a time, rather than trying to get everything done in one go.

Realistically, we won’t be moving until Summer, possibly even early Autumn 2025... and if we get the keys any later than early September, then we will have to postpone it to January 2026 due to how busy the shop gets between late September and December. Either way, I’m just happy it's actually happening and our dream of owning a house is coming true!

A few closing words

I focused on answering more personal questions. I've noted all the slow living questions and will try to answer them in my upcoming blog posts and YouTube videos, so keep an eye out for topics that might interest you.

Thank you very much for reading.
