5 Simple Ways to Transform Your Home into Autumn Cosiness

It may be getting darker outside, but there’s no reason why it can’t be warm and cosy inside.
There are only a few months left in the year and it won't be long until the Christmas and New Year celebrations are here. In the meantime, we can all enjoy the changing of the seasons as autumn approaches and the spectacular show that nature puts on as the leaves change colour.
As it starts to get colder and darker earlier in the day, it's time to prepare the home for the months ahead with accents like cosy cushions and autumn candles. The carefree days of summer when you could leave doors and windows open — with little to do around the house — are fading. Now is the time to transform your home into sumptuous autumn cosiness. Here are five ways you can do that.
1. Get the Fire Ready
What's cosier than cuddling up before an open fire, with a bottle of wine, on a dark autumn or winter's night? It's heaven, and you might never want to get up off the sofa.
We aren’t all lucky enough to have a fire — open or otherwise — but if you do have one, great. It's time to either get the chimney sweep in or sweep the chimney yourself to ensure there's nothing up there — like birds’ nests — that could cause problems when the fire is lit. Then it’s time to get stocked up on fuel. If you don't have a fire in your home and would love to have one, a good option for autumn cosiness is an electric fire that mimics a real one with logs and flickering flames. Some are so realistic that you’d never know the difference.
2. Buy Cushions and Throws
On a chilly autumn evening, there's nothing better than settling down in the living room to watch TV or have friends over for drinks. But even with a fire, it can be hard to heat a room, especially if it's a large one and in an old house. That's why we all need cushions to sink into and throws to snuggle up in for instant warmth. It's a good idea to choose cushions — you may already have some, but it's best to get new ones, as they can lose their shape after a while — and throws that match the colour of your decor, or they risk standing out too much and jarring with the theme of the room.
3. Get New Lighting
You don't have to stick with the same lighting in your house all year round. As the seasons change, it's great to introduce new lighting to give your home its own autumnal revamp. Consider swapping out your light bulbs with those of different wattages, shades or colours. Add dimmer switches so you can set the mood. Maybe you'd even like to install some cool LED lighting in areas like the kitchen to give it a lift? And you can always invest in new lamps — large and small — to bring some light into darker corners of rooms you spend a lot of time in.
4. Buy Autumn Candles

Another terrific way to transform your home at this time of the year is to get some autumn candles and place them around the house. Some of the best autumn candles have delicious scents that represent the season and help imbue your home with a sense of hygge while boosting the overall ambience. Something like a Cinnamon Pumpkin scented soy candle would be perfect around Halloween — and how about treating yourself to a Toffee Vanilla soy candle? Sweet!
5. Stock up on Autumnal Food
Seasons change and so do diets. It's no longer a time for light and breezy salads but something more warming and substantial. It's also time to stock up on the ingredients you need to make hearty, wholesome and healthy soups, stews and pies to keep you satisfied during the cold autumn (and winter) days and nights. Don't forget about the drinks either — make sure you have lots of vino in so you can conjure up some mulled wine on a lovely night in with your lover.
