Winter Solstice or Yule is a pagan celebration for the longest night of the year. Days will beget longer as the light returns. It’s time for nurturing, deep rest, but also planning, dreaming and visualising.
Try relaxing yin yoga poses for sleep and mind relaxation that I find really beneficial during this pretty stressful run up to Christmas (If you don’t have a bolster, just stack up some pillows).

WINTER SOLSTICE YOGA - mind relaxing yoga poses

Hold each pose 3-5 minutes, focusing on your breath or mantra of your choice. 
1. Wide legged child pose. This pose should become part of your relaxing yoga routine.

2. Resting butterfly with the support of the bolster - you can also stack a couple of pillows instead of the bolster. This is a perfect pose for mind relaxation.

3. Supported butterfly. Use bolster to elevate your shoulders and create space in your chest in this heart opening position. This is one of the most relaxing yoga poses, perfect to unwind after long day.

4. Legs up the wall. Let yourself rest in this position a little longer, allowing blood and lymph to travel downwards, improving circulation, relieving stress and tension.

At the end of your practice don't forget the final relaxation pose in yoga - savasana - the most important of all poses.
